Measurements
Please use a tape measure when measuring, rulers although great tools, may not provide the best measurements.
Using a Tape Measure, please gather the following
A, B, C, and D measurements.
A – Chest Measurement – Measure the circumference of your chest starting at
the middle of your chest (keeping the tape measure tucked under both your
arm pits) around the back of your torso back the starting point in the middle
of your chest. You will have formed a circle.
For the next three measurements, we suggest wearing
a collared button down shirt and pants when measuring.
Please take the measurements with a tucked in shirt.
This will ensure an optimal fit.
B – Outer Length Measurement – from the back of the collar down to the
top of the rear end/ thy region.
C – Inner Sleeve Measurement – from your arm pit to your cuff/ wrist
D – Inner Length Measurement – from your arm pit to the thy region/ rear end
Above please note the proportions of a traditional Icelandic wool sweater.
For example, let us assume Measurement A, the chest measurement, is 40 inches,
the sweater collar is forty (40%) of the 40 inch chest measurement.
That means the collar is 16 inches.40 inches x 40% = 16 inches
These traditional proportions for an Icelandic wool sweater fit most clients.
We do however have clients that find these proportions uncomfortable.
For example, a loving mother with a son that plays football in college may
have a neck size greater than forty percent (40%) of his chest measurement,
Measurement A.
She may want to have a sweater made for the bus trip home from away games.
His chest measurement, Measurement A, is 55 inches.
The proportional standard neck size is 22 inches, however the real neck size is 25 inches.
Instead of forty percent (40%) being the best proportions, the growing lad needs forty – five (45%).
Three inches in this case is the difference between a good fitting wardrobe
staple and an unworn garment in a dresser or closet.
If you suspect that your loved one may have a bigger than normal neck and/ or wrist size,
then please do not hesitate to forward neck and wrist measurements along with your order.
We are happy to work with you on sizing. Icelandic sweaters are comfortable and easy to wear.
